Paul and Sophie

A film by Valentine Roels

Paul and Sophie is a film centered on the words of two survivors, a hidden child and a deportee. Sophie Rechtman, 8 years old in 1942, escaped deportation thanks to the courage of “ordinary people” who hid her for more than two years in Brussels. Paul Sobol, a Brussels ketje, deported at 18, is one of the few survivors of the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camps. Sophie talks about herself, then Paul. Both divide their story around the central event in their life: the Shoah. Finally, they evoke the woman and man they are today.
