Yiddish Soul

A film by Nathalie Rossetti et Turi Finocchiaro

Yiddish Soul is a trip to the heart of the rebirth of Yiddish song through the passion of the talented European musicians Karsten Troyke, Shura Lipovsky, and the KlezRoym. Chava Alberstein and Myriam Fuks follow, with emotion, their young emulators’ rovings through various towns in Europe. They transmit the immediate pleasure of Yiddish music through their daily lives and singing tours. Yiddish Soul testifies to the passion that exists between these performers and Yiddish song today.

C’est un film au cœur de l’émotion dans les rapports entre ces artistes et la chanson yiddish d’aujourd’hui.

All the performers are wonderful, especially Karsten Troyke, whose fargessene Yiddish liedern (forgotten Yiddish songs) are earning him the reputation of being the pre-eminent Yiddish performer in Europe today.

Hailing from points throughout the continent, these gifted musicians share a passion for the world of storytelling and song rescued from the brink of extinction. The Yiddish genre paints a nuanced portrait of daily life in all its piety, melancholy, pining and hilarity.
